Keratotic beriberi (athlete's foot)

Keratotic tinea pedis, also known as "keratotic athlete's foot" or "dry tinea pedis," is a chronic fungal infection of the feet caused by dermatophytes. Unlike typical moist, blistering, or peeling athlete's foot, keratotic tinea pedis primarily manifests as thickened, dry, cracked, and scaly skin on the soles or heels. Patients often experience rough, tight skin, and even cracks, which can lead to pain or bacterial infection in severe cases.

This condition is usually caused by long-term fungal infection and abnormal skin cell turnover. Common triggers include wearing non-breathable shoes and socks, damp foot environments, or prolonged standing at work. High-risk groups include athletes, office workers who frequently wear closed-toe shoes, and people with weakened immune systems.
